to organize the task of packing.
General Packing Tips
- Pack early! It is extremely important that you begin organizing and
arranging your items as soon as you determine your moving date. An organized
pack means an efficient move and a stress-free unpacking process when
you arrive in your new home.
- Pack one room at a time. By going from one room to the next and packing
items, you are positioning yourself for an efficient unpacking at your
new home. Make a list of all the items you put into boxes in order to
make sure they end up on the other side. Mark "Fragile" where
necessary.
- Obtain quality materials. You want to make sure that your items get
to their destination without any bumps or bruises. The best way to ensure
a safe move is to use materials that protect your possessions. Such
materials as packing paper, peanuts, bubble wrap and packing tape will
give your items the protection they need for the bumpy ride.
- Beware of wrapping items in newspaper. Although this may be a cheaper
alternative, it can leave unwanted marks and stains on your prized possessions.
- Use newer, sturdier boxes. Boxes that have been used often may not
keep your belongings as safe as a newer box.
- Try to put heavier items in smaller boxes and light bulky items in
larger boxes. Do not over or under pack boxes because it may lead to
split, dented, or crushed boxes during the move.
- Pack a suitcase or box of items that you will need during your first
day in your new home.
- Check for any special moving requirement with regards to electronic
equipment. Also, make sure that major appliances and electronics are
properly serviced before they are packed.
